Famous Amos chocolate chip cookies. I mean, really?! They are so good. I always forget how good they are. Band of Horses- I've been playing Everything, All the Time ....uh, all the time. Wearing bracelets and rings and other jewelry... its a big step for me! Sunny days. Pink lemonade. Taking photos again- I was just in the slump. I had absolutely no desire to take my camera anywhere, and now? I want to cart it around everywhere! (in light of this) VSCO Film presets and learning to use LR. Buying some new make-up. Painting my nails. Catching up with friends. Tax season being over. Starting to train (for reals, now that the weather is better) for a 5k....
anything you(all like, 4 of you who read this) are enjoying?
Friday was lovely. Just what a day off should be. Sunny and gorgeous outside. A coffee date with one of my old roomies late morning. (we both appreciate sleeping it) Lots of life talking, laughs, discussions on the opposite sex and a mutual love for coffee and dreams of traveling to other places.
Then browsing at Goodwill before meeting with my friend Johanna to browse books at B&N and catch up a bit over lunch.
Then last night we had a little dinner party cook-out at a friends house. A BYOMD. (bring your own meat and drink) I supplied all sorts of yummy toppings and Leanne and Chris opened their home, and made yummy desserts. (Chris also was the grill king)
Matt brought kabobs- always having to one-up the rest of us. Mr. Classy.
And we were all childishly amused by the seasoning named "Butt Rub". Yup. That's us. Mature, classy adults.
But seriously- this is a grand group of people. Whenever we get together our conversations are fascinating, hilarious, serious, somewhat irreverent, and a lot of times deep. God, politics, movies, sex, the church, pop culture, life... pretty much everything is on the table for discussion.
I always wanted to like the movie Garden State more than I actually did. Overall, I liked the concept, I enjoyed the whole package... but, can I let you in on a secret? I can't stand Natalie Portman. She is, to me, the embodiment of the 'Manic Pixie Dream Girl' character. (with the exception of Black Swan and the newer Star Wars movies- but Black Swan was weird and the Star Wars movies were just bad.) This also stems from the fact that she reminds me of my best friend from back in high school. A girl who guys saw as their MPDG, and, subsequently, I was overlooked. (plus, my "friend" was manipulative and needy, so there's just all sorts of negative feelings attached to all of this. Sorry Natalie.) Plus, Garden State writes her as a MPDG. So, there's that. Its like, double MPDG. Ugh.
oh my gosh. Seriously... this "fantasy"
annoys me so much. It makes me feel like because I am an emotionally
stable, hardworking, goal oriented grown woman, that I am a stick in the
mud. Guys have passed me over more times that I can count for this
idea... (hint, gentlemen? She doesn't EXIST. If you feel like you've
found her...
But, anyhoo, one thing I did love about Garden State, was the soundtrack. What? You too? Your mom too? And your weird uncle? Shocking. I know.
Iron & Wine covering The Postal Service? Coldplay sadly and epically playing at the end. The Shins. Frou Frou. It was an aspiring indie kid's music dream. Zac Braff has good taste in music.
So, even though I think its weird that he's started a Kickstarter campaign to create his "follow up" to Gardent State...(really? We're not only paying $13 to see a movie at theaters, now they're gonna ask us to fund them too?) if you donate $20 or more... you'll get to hear the soundtrack before its released AND he'll make and send out a new playlist each week of the production. That would be pretty cool.
So... today I have a raging headache... but at least I'm having a good hair day... I'll take it where I can. These are from Wednesday. Embracing the grandma skirt even though I'm a shorty.
I got to see my sister-friend Kim tonight after waaaay too long of not seeing her. So we caught up over ice cream, tried to get the goats to scream at us (they didn't) and took silly photos. I love this lady so much.
